Default Fun in DTW, MEM?

Just doing some research on either being i will most likely be based at one of them soon.

Are there any lakes near DTW, or MEM that are good for both skiing, fishing, lounging?

Does either DTW MEM have any good places to ride bicycles? or motorcycles?

Does DTW have any good places to snomobile?

Anyother good outdoor activities in either? camping, hiking, etc?

DTW is bad bad bad for motorcycling if you like curvy roads. If you love free-way riding, then you'll be at home. There are lakes around that you can do all the above on. Snowmobiling you'll still have to go north to get to the good stuff. Most of the locals go up to the U.P. for the outdoor stuff, but even anything north of Flint will work. Skies the limit with outdoor activities though in northern MI. There's also a variety of Metro-Parks in the area that you can bicycle/run/rollerblade etc. on in the trails. I lived up there a year and a half, so I know a little about the area. If you do go up there, depending on what type of bike you ride, I know some people you could hook up with.(sportbike group, not a squid-fest I assure you)

Load up your car with your bike and take it to downtown Memphis in the summertime. There are long, windy bike paths and roads that follow the Mississippi river downtown. Also, check out Shelby Farms. This is a large, expansive park in the middle of the city that has grazing buffalo, lakes for sailing, and tons of trails for walking/jogging/biking.

If you want a larger lake, many people in Memphis drive to either Horsehoe lake in Arkansas, Pickwick lake in west Tennessee, or Sardis Lake in Mississippi. All are roughly an hour-hour 1/2 away and offer great things to do in the way of leisure. I have really fond memories as a kid swimming and fishing in these lakes with friends and family.

If you are interested in something closer, the community of Lakeland, TN is fairly close to town and has plenty of real estate surrounding a decent sized lake.

Lastly, if you are into kayaking or canoeing, the Wolf River runs through the city, beginning in Moscow, TN and ending at the Mississippi River. I've gone kayaking and canoeing on the Wolf River and find that the best time is in the fall when you have colorful forests hanging over the river. Plus, you won't see many water moccasins then either!

Are you kidding? Michigan is the Great Lakes State! It's completely surrounded!

If you guys are wanting a place in the DTW area. I have a friend that works @ the FBO at YIP(it's only 7 nm west of DTW), and she lives pretty close. I don't think the drive would be bad, and she's looking for roomates in her house. If you give me your contact info, I can pass it on to her if you are interested. I'm not sure if she's looking for 1 or maybe more people. I can't remember if she's in a house or a condo. I'll let her give you all the info though.
