Hrm, so did he just up and disappear? Never really stated that in the article. If the guy went this long w/o being noticed, he's obviously got some experience or skills none-the-less, but to let someone work on stuff w/o even being checked for their tickets is pretty bad, they definately dropped the ball on that one.
