Oooooh yeah.. I saw that one a few days ago.

My thing is how the airplane ended up over the blast fence. Kinda makes you wonder which way they were pointed.

Word on the street is that this BRAND NEW AIRPLANE was supposed to be delivered next week.

One "uncomfirmed" source stated that it was now going to be a write off.

There were two Airbus employees onboard, as well as seven of the airline's acceptance team. Not necessarally Etihad personnel, rather, a sub-contractor of some sort. No word on who was "driving".

Everyone got out alive, but what a big time bummer.

I've seen a Herk jump chocks...a pretty high pucker factor!

An A340-600 over a blast fence, though? They're probably still trying to get the seat cushions separated from the behinds of the people who were on board, I'm thinkin' surgery..

"..yes nurse, what do we have here? Wow..are those... seat cushions!?"

I'm glad no one was hurt, could have been a lot worse.

What more can be done to make this less likely to happen?

Chocks on every single tire?

Taller chocks?

I can only imagine what that must've looked and sounded like to see a plane that big running at full tilt jump the chocks and rocket forward...man, I think I would've shat brix.

There are now conflicting reports; 1:Taxiing around the ramp, or, 2: Unchocked Engine runs, according to several sources. Jungle probably had it right the first time though.

There's a lot of information (more pictures as well) on some of the other sites.

Don't know if it's OK to say it , so Mods, feel free to edit, but both Airdisaster and Pprune have extensive coverage.

Link away! The only heartburn we have with linking is with webmasters that spam advertisements to their own websites or repeated links to a particular product.

Here are few links I found:

Default Destroyed A340-600 Pictures

A link it is then.

You don't need to register to view the threads. The format is the same as it is here so navigating is simple enough.

This takes you to the first page, and there is some interesting reading. Take at least three grains of salt as, well, you'll see.

The most amazing pictures are on pages 8 and 9.

It appears that the aircraft was insured by Airbus and will be written off. Once you see the pictures, you will see why.

Heck of a loss though.

So now Etihad is short one LR widebody. How do they replace its' capacity. Short term lease, cancel the route, etc..? Would the short term lease or route revenue be compensated by Airbus or an insurance policy?
