What makes a "Good Pilot"
Whenever anyone is referring to someone being a 'good pilot' or he 'can really fly that plane' or anything referring to someone's skill as a pilot, what things in particular are being referred to?
or simply, What makes a pilot good/great?

Well for me, when I talk about a "good" pilot, it definately is in reference to their current level in their career etc... I can say a student pilot is a good pilot, and obviously mean that they are catching on quick, things are pretty natural in the plane, and they don't get cocky. Obviously though they aren't going to be able to perform to commercial or instrument standards(although had one that was pretty damn good once). So for me, it is an open statement, but meant to inspire confidence about someone else.
For a pilot with 500+ hours, being good to me means being smooth. You should know all the basics, now it's time to work on finese'. So that's about all, carry on

Smoothness is key. If you can put the airplane through the manuevers and I never feel like I need to reach for the controls, that's a good step in the right direction. With high-time pilots, that also applies, but usually the conditions (usually weather) are terrible. The guys who make gusty days feel like a sunny Saturday afternoon are good pilots in my book.

I think attitude plays a big role but many things are attributed to a proficient pilot...
learning is a result of an experience and experience contributes greatly to your proficiency. Alongside aeronautical knowledge, experience plays a big role to determine the capability of the pilot. Decision making, attitude, and knowledge all come from experience.
There is more to a pilot than precision flying an ILS approach.
One of my friends which happens to be an airline captain told me this before i started training..
"there are old pilots and there are bold pilots. which are you?"
