You probably heard the old story about the guy who overshot Rwy 13 and complained to Tower that the approach was too tight for his final turn. The controller responded: "Most people use the other river."

What are yours? Do you ever answer any questions to include this one?

My first eval flight for 135 IFR was done in Nome. Try and figure this one out 'on the fly!'.

(ILS/DME Z rwy 28, Nome)

My IFR training there was just incredible! Should be a prerequisite for all IFR pilots, flying the dark winters in AK on instruments!

Fly well,

Ronin

Default The "most fun

Last leg of any trip - :30 minutes early, no delay, and cleared the visual when you first check on with approach. Bonus fun points if you don't commute.

You actually file IFR?

GPS direct to APUYO, you get it every time....unless Alaska is anywhere nearby, then you'll probably hold, even if you are #1.

Nome Sweet Nome!

Even sweeter: Same scenario, but you ARE a commuter, flying into your home city on a 3 day weekend layover. Counts as 3 work days, with perdiem!

The old IGS checkerboard approach into Kai Tak was pretty unusual, and challenging...

I used to fly SFO RNO SFO 3 times a day in a Brasilia. The rule was, once over Squaw Valley you could only reduce power to make the runway. It was a fun way to break the monotony of the repetitive flight. Also flying in to South Lake Tahoe airport was fun and beautiful.
