ATP, have you looked into weather modification? Nothing beats flying right up next to a tornadic supercell in 1000+ fpm updrafts.

No I never have, but I bet it's a real rush!!!

High School invincibility made my friends and I hit the county roads every time we saw a squall line and the winds quit! Northern OK had it's share of destruction. Your car could break 125, and twisters don't travel that fast! We'd see how close we could get in the Chrysler Windsor, and avoid hail damage!

In addition to the scientific research that can come from the data that is collected and analyzed by storm chasing, I'm pulled in by the majestic & sequential dance that funnels or tornadoes exhibit.

Any other (wannabe) or actual storm chasers out there?

I know that I'm not alone.

I try to avoid as much as possible, not chase. I have seen several up close and personal. The Andover tornado being one (Google it), it had a twin and I got real close to it, less than a 1/4 mile. I have seen more than two dozen in the last 5-6 years.

Yes, I live in Ks.

Edit: Here's the Wikipedia link for that day, I forgot how many Tornadoes came from that storm line:

The former most dangerous profession of farming. I grew up on one, still help out a ton in the spring and fall. Definately not as dangerous as when my grandpa was doing it.

Stormchasing sounds fun, but I'd like to do crop-dusting too!

Storm season is starting here already. Had baseball sized hail with 70 mph winds this morning east of town. No tornadoes yet, but they're coming.

Hey Swass:

If you're able to and at a safe distance, how 'bout posting some photos of some funnel clouds and/or tornadoes in the "Photo Thread". You too, Ewwflyer.

The Andover storm was the one that struck near the AF base; Correct? I remember a buddy of mine who works for the FAA in WV says he was there when it hit. Says it scared the "excrement" out him!!!:D

That's the one, I saw it and got really close one that spawned from it. I'll see if I can get some pics this season. Might not have to wait long, looks like the threat of severe storms returns on Wed andf Thurs.

I saw this one also, coming back from a golf tournament in Hesston, we just left the course. This isn't my pic, I didn't have a camera on me, but I was on the same highway.

If your into storm chasing, we may be getting lit up tonight. Seems ripe outside for some severe storms.
