That was very impressive when it hit the trees.

I hit a tree in an Air Tractor. Clipped about four feet off the wing. Got it home safely, but the wing had to be totally rebuilt with new spars. Closest I ever came to buying the farm.

The pilot from that video became my squadron commander four or five years after that incident. He was one of the best squadron cc's I ever worked for. He had a great, wide screen perspective. If you screwed something up he'd say, "as long as we don't have to make a safety video, it can't be that bad."

I can think of at least two other guys I've know that have hit trees in F-16s and lived to tell it...some very lucky guys no doubt.

Reminds me of a joke. An Alaskan bush pilot goes out in the morning to drop off some hunters. Well, he doesn't come back when he's supposed to. The chief pilot starts making calls, nobody has seen or heard from the guy. It's getting late, the CP is thinking he lost another pilot and airplane.

Just when the CP is about to write it off as a loss, the pilot comes strolling in. The CP is relieved to see him. "Where have you been? I thought you were dead, what happened"

"I had a birdstrike"

"You had a birdstrike? How did that happen? What about the airplane?"

"I don't know how, all I know is it knocked him right out of the freaking tree he was sitting in."
