Default Tipping Van Drivers

I tip the hotel van drivers 2 bucks. For a lazy driver who won't help with the bags, they get a buck, or nothing if they have an attitude.

Am I tipping too much at $2.00? I notice that most crews pay out a dollar at the end of a ride.

I tip $2.00 too. I get per diem while I'm on the road - so it's really not money out of my pocket. I'll get a crew meal on the plane, so two meals the rest of the day is covered by per diem with money left over. So, $2.00 - 4.00 in tips for the van driver is fine, unless he/she is a putz. I don't feel obligated to tip, if they have an attitude or help with bags, I could care less about getting a dirty look from them.

I'm usually up to tipping them $1.00, but only if they're on time. If we have to wait more than a few minutes, I don't tip at all.

Van drivers should be paid better. Why have hotel guests subsidize these employees' pay?

Nobody tips regional pilots, who are paid even less than a shuttle driver.- and we can cut corners, speed up, and taxi like a bat out of hell to help make these passengers' connections.

A captain I know leaves a tip jar hanging on the cockpit door as passengers exit.

Damn! I thought *I* was cheap, tipping ONLY $2 up to the day I retired 2 years ago! Counting for inflation, you guys are REALLY upholding the “cheap pilot” tradition <G>

I tip $1 also. Recently, however, I have been leaving $1 for the chamber maid. I feel less guilty when I leave the place a mess.

I tip one dollar for timely pickups.

What do you tip --if anything-- the maids and room service? Most of the pilots I fly with don't leave a dime.

$1.00 each ride. It's all I'm willing to part with considering I'm on the lower end of the payscale.

Is that 5 bucks just for you, or for members of your crew too?

For the maid I leave $2.00 per day...
