reason for seat assignments?
#2
Well the primary reason is so that people can pick which seat they want, like having a isle/window seat. In that way groups can also reserve seats in order to sit close together. However, I'm sure seat assignments have been used for ID purposes in a disaster. Also, not all airlines have seat assignments, such as Southwest

nah,
in the event of an actual crash, you'll go into the ground like an effin dart and the seats are all going to break loose anyways. might be still strapped into your seat, but, God only know where it's going to wind up.
Not like each seat has the number on it in the same way stadiums do. now, if you're lucky enough to crash while you aren't wearing your seat belt, you just might be lucky enough to smash through the overhead bin and they'll be able to id you that way since the seat numbeer is posted there.\
Barring that, pretty much stuck with best guess or DNA analysis
