Belgium and Switzerland have multiple official languages. As an American you really do not have much to complain about when there is no official national language. With the increase of spanish speakers it is going to get worse. In this case I would assume that when these union members were hired there was a set list of requirements and if it did not list spanish speakers then they have a real good case. I am not standing up for this policy, but unless they vote on an official language then you are going to run into these problems. People are outraged when they hear about cases like this but really there is 30-40 spanish language channels on cable in my area, there is the option to press 2 to get a spanish speaker on most large companies phone lines, and there is so many spanish speakers in this country that the incentive to learn English for spanish speakers is not there in the same capacity as if you were a Russian, German, Chinese, etc..... People are basically complaining about something that is not the law of the country. So if things like this outrage you then you better contact your politicians and get the official language as English, until then your argument does not hold that much weight. Oregon is one of the few states which has not adapted English as the official state language.
