Question

I have a buddy who received his training through the military and came out with a commercial multi-engine instrument rating. Later got his ATP and now flies for Southwest. He does not have his single engine rating though and desires to get checked out in a 172 to go in search of the $100 hamburger.

What does the FAA require for him to get his SE rating? A checkride per the FAA Practical Test Standards?
