Default Passport??

What is the easiest way to renew your passport? I don’t live by a passport office.

Thanks

Application for Passport by Mail (Renewals Only): DS 82
Print out the form, send in $60, new photos, old passport and about 2 weeks later check your mailbox... It was 2 weeks to the day for my passport (this month). Expidited service runs 5-8 days...

If you're in a big hurry, there are several expediters that can get your passport to you in a couple of days. Unfortunately, those services cost upwards of $300 plus normal renewal fees. If you have to have it tomorrow, though, it is possible.

As much as it sucks, I would recommend going to a passport office. I live close enough to one (2 hours) that I did this, and you could do it same day without issues. Even if you have to commute in and out same day, from the above, you can see that you will save $300+. You just need an appointment (see travel.state.gov for details) and an e-mail or letter from someone at your airline stating why you need same day service. I arrived at the passport office @ 8:30, and had my passport by 11:15. Hope this helps.

Some companies will pay for your renewal, mine does, you should ask your employer.

I may be wrong, but you can renew at a Post Office, correct? I'm sure you live by one of those!

If you fly international, stop by a U.S. embassy on your layover. It won't get done that day, but you won't have to leave your old passport until you get your new one. Just pick up the new one on your next trip.

That's where I've gotten mine as well, but I've never had to renew. Wasn't 100% sure if you could renew there, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't... just bring the proper paperwork.
