that nose sure came back down fast. Looks like the crew forgot to deploy the slats/flaps, and the takeoff warning horn didn't catch the discrepancy (according to Spanish authorities thus far). Same thing happened in this crash in Detroit: The Crash

I heard that the flaps were not in the proper position and the warning system was inop

This is not the only accident where the config warning didn't go off. I wonder what exactly happened, did they just disconnect it on purpose or did it just not go off. Im upset that we are going on 2009 and we have these kind of accidents happen, it's a shame.

I'm not speculating on this SPECIFIC accident. But I'm curious if it's approved on that series aircraft to be able to defer an inop config warning as long as flap position can be verified by other means.

You know, how things like your fuel gauges can be kaput, etc.

Civil Aviation approved Spanair SOP without the Boeing recomendation, Mapjet (incident Lanzarote) informed CAIAC of their conclusions and recomendations in January this year, still no CAIAC report on this incident etc.

Interesting detail: (ARE) because the cb's are being pulled very often by maintenance personnel to put the a/c in air logic on the ground, the white ring got dirty and it being in a remote area of the panel, it was easy for pilots to overlook that it was not put back...

The article cites Mapjet who claim that they got away with their flapless takeoff because of the higher power of the MD83, lower TOW, head wind and crew action (deploy flap)
