Great, APC is one BIG BANNER now

I am sure this will get deleted but It its worth nothing that the Flashy Banners on every page is very distracting when I am trying to educate myself on whats going on in the Airline world:(

I honestly didn't really notice until you said something. Thanks for making my day! :D

mooney 09-22-2008 01:33 PM

but that's what makes this site free for all to complain :)

The Juice 09-22-2008 01:50 PM

I was thinking the same thing. Right now as I type I am reading about a great program in Europe where I can pay to fly a real life A320....how cool!

I can be a pilot!!!!

Fight the power!

Airsupport 09-22-2008 01:52 PM

guys give them a break. this wonderful board you love to use and bi tch on isn't free. i even clicked on one to support the cause!

contrails 09-22-2008 01:53 PM

If it is between seeing a few ads (which you can ignore if you don't want to click them) or paying a fee to access a forum, I'll opt for the ads.

exactly. i would never pay to join a forum.

Trufactor7 09-22-2008 02:01 PM

yea the banners are annoying but i cant complain because it makes the site free

JoeyMeatballs 09-22-2008 02:04 PM

Id rather pay, just wait you will be typing an earth-shattering thought, only to realize a Pop-Up got in your way and you were typing nothing :)

I didnt see many banners before they Sold-out to whatever company bought them.....

Sorry guys I wish I had more to contribute I am all out of things to complain about, other then

Government Bailouts to The GREEDY Folks on Wall street, and Oil jumping $20.00 a barrel, but lets not talk politics on here, otherwise this thread will get closed ;)

Gordon C 09-22-2008 02:06 PM

All the ads i'm seeing are relevant to pilots, at least. I visit a lot of forums and this is the only one that was ad free. I guess all good things must come to an end.

I'm sure their bandwidth costs are huge, they've got to cover that cost somehow........

Exactly, this site was always free..before the pop up ads. Do I blame the creators of the site in selling it, nope cause I would probably do the same.

Not even Jet Careers has this many. What makes me laugh is most of these ads are for overseas training.

Gordon C 09-22-2008 02:12 PM

That's because that's where the jobs are right now...... overseas.

The Juice 09-22-2008 02:16 PM

Read the ads.

The majority are for overseas training. I do not know how effective it is to advertise on a site which is mainly US trained pilots who are working for an airline. And for those who are not pilots on the site I wonder how many are interested in going to Europe to get their ratings when most Europeans come to the states because it is so expensive in Europe.

UpFront 09-22-2008 02:19 PM

These adds are hurting my eyes......Wait a minute.....Put my shades on, everything is ok now.

cbire880 09-22-2008 02:31 PM

That Jetlink one is mighty sketchy. 67,000 euro for 500 hours as a working FO. Sounds like PFT is alive and well across the pond. I'd say that stuff is worse than the gigs we complain about over here. Any company that puts their banking information up for you to transfer your funds to is probably going to rip you off.

UpThere 09-22-2008 02:31 PM

I'm going to Vietnam Airlines to become a A330 PIC!! Oh wait, I can do that here in the US. Oh wait..... no I cant. :(

SAAB,
Your credibility as an airline pilot is to be questioned. A pop up ad free site is a proud mark of a successful airline forum. I think our site has more credibility now <g>. Are you done with the USA TOday? I wanna take a look...... <bg>

Delta102 09-22-2008 02:43 PM

They've been footing the bill for a very long time ! Theres no free ride in life.

hotshot 09-22-2008 02:45 PM

It could be worse, go over to airliners.net for a few minutes and try not to have a seizure.

And FWIW, I LOL'd at this ad:

Hahah there is nothing like walking to the back of the a/c when the pax are off and you find a NY Times, or USA Today, its like winning the lottery....haha my life is sad

FLY6584 09-22-2008 03:47 PM

Wow I can't believe what I'm reading on this forum. A bunch of whiners if you ask me. You all have absolutely no idea how much work, time, and money it takes to run a site like this. This website doesn't require a fee nor does it ask for donations.

Just think about how much this website has provided you all with job search help, interview advice, and overall career advancement. You can't even put a price on all that and now you all are complaining about a few ads that pop up with aviation ads no less!!!!!

Gordon C 09-22-2008 04:35 PM

But pilots like to whine, you know that

Work from home as a pilot? Isn't that called Microsoft Flight Simulator? Aren't they on ver 43.1 now or something?

These boards now make it feel like this is a Skybus board.

jban642 09-22-2008 06:12 PM

There are banners everywhere when do the pop ups come. This is not the APC I remember. This stinks.

SAAB,
Winning the lottery is that said paper is largely intact and you don't have to fold it all back together in front of the paying pax <BG>. My long ago mentor Capt explained to an astonished customer once (after taking their paper out of the trash in front of them ) when I was at COEX that he simply believed in recycling!!! (LMAO).

What's the difference between a pilot and jet engine?

The engine eventually stops whining. :D

wannabepilot 09-22-2008 06:46 PM

This site is now TACKY, TACKY, TACKY!!! Maybe I will start my own site...hmmmm...interesting thought....

Was That For Us? 09-22-2008 06:56 PM

Do Europeans own this site???? Nothing but ads for Euro pilots. What a disaster this ad stuff is

bluebravo 09-22-2008 08:03 PM

It has taken away from the professional image I thought this forum is all about. I understand some ads, but geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez this is alot of ads.

stinsonjr 09-22-2008 08:24 PM

The only ones that are truly irritating to me are the ads along the sides. If they did away with those and restored the screen width I think it would be pretty uneventful.

Outlaw2097 09-22-2008 08:26 PM

Ads pay the bills. Easy and simple as that.

Perhaps there should be a $10/month service charge or something to offer an APF without ads.

Just saying...

ToiletDuck 09-22-2008 08:35 PM

Firefox can stop the adds from showing. I was thinking the "minimal amount of ads" would be along the line of google adds though. I was a little surprised.

hotelmode 09-22-2008 09:22 PM

I clicked on it. Most ads are pay-per-click. You're welcome APC!

Pilotpip 09-22-2008 10:00 PM

The website is running slower than slow too.

Wonder if all the "First Officer Training Program" flash crap has anything to do with it.

I know you gotta pay the bills guys, but this is out of hand.

Albief15 09-22-2008 10:37 PM

You guys that are complaining can go over to other sites where they are fee based. I was a moderator at one of those sites for a while. Great guys, good content, but the $10 fee keeps the membership MUCH lower than here. With the smaller size you lose some of the dynamic content of the boards. I still go there at times, but it is disappointing to check in after weeks away and still see some of the same threads on page one. In other words--ain't nothin' free, and this board being about the best of the bunch for what it does you should be thankful it was free as long as it was.

For what its worth, I've inquired about running an ad for interview prep and placement services. I have no idea of the rate but I pay about $1200 a year for a small 1 x 1 ad at flight info.

If you really, really object, you do have to realize that while the moderators and owners had the VISION for this site, its you--the membership--that creates the value of the content and the desire for advertisers to advertise. You have the ultimate power to leave the site and diminish its value. However, when someone tries to spin up a new site they'll discover all the time, money, and effort involved. The owners here won't care--they already SOLD the site--so you won't be hurting them. However--as long as this is the place to be for cargo issues (and it has been since the UPS contract a few years back) you can bet I'll be watching here.

hotshot 09-22-2008 10:42 PM

When Freight Dog and HSLD sold this site did they give up ALL ownership rights, or are they still able to say F U to all the ads?

Wait wait wait wait wait... What did I miss? The site is no longer owned by Freight Dog and HSLD? When did all this happen?
