Hi.

I read that the cancelation of the b-757's production was, in part, because the B-739 is more economic doing almost the same kind of flights with the same number of passengers.

The questions are:

Could the A-350 replace A-330? And could the B-787 replace the B-767?

What do you think?

I really think that Airbus will cancel the A350 program... there doesn't seem to be much interest and much of the time Airbus used "underhanded" tactics to gain customers (i.e. financing deals for the "new" US Airways).

It seems to me that the 787 is a superior plane when compared with the current design specs of the A350. The 787 itself was designed from scatch whereas the A350 is just a beefed up, longer range A330. This Airbus design give Airbus little flexiblity to offer value to its A350 customers.

I think the reactionary manufacturing (competing after the fact with Boeing) that Airbus wants to accomplish will just put a plane out there that will not make money for the Airbus Consortium.

I think they should stick to marketing and lobbying for greater support of their superjumbo the A380. The A380 itself seems to have serious issues being sold in Asia, its target market. It seems that Singapore Airlines will be the first to fly the A380, but from the history of the company, it's for status purposes only... they'll probably be the first to dump the A380 if they could haggle Boeing for a better deal on the 747-8. This is a very similar situation to Singapore Airlines and the A340-500... they bought several of these aicraft to fly non-stop routes to Newark from Singapore just to establish a niche for themselves and then dump the A345 the moment they can get a better deal on the 777LR. Japan Airlines and ANA refuse to even consider the A380 as they transition to all Boeing fleets. Yes, Airbus should definitely concentrate on getting more customers for the A380 than creating a half-assed competitor to the 787.

The A-350 is the reason for the shutdown of the A300/A310 production line. Similarly, the 787 will ultimately lead to the shutdown of the 757/767 line. A big reason why the 757 line is already gone is because the 737-900 is basically the same aircraft, just slightly more efficient.

Boeing purpously kept the 787 about the size of a 767 because they did not want it to steal orders away from the 777. However, with interest expressed in a stretch 787 by Quantas and many other airlines, Boeing will release the 787-10, a stretched version of the 787 which may take some orders away from the 777.

I think the A-350 has already taken orders from the A330 and A340 for that matter. Afterall, the A330 only got 0 orders last year, and the A340 only got 15! (Boeing 777 got 154 orders!).

I agree it seems Boeing did the research spent the timedeveloping an excellent looking aircraft where as Airbus was under the gone and just slapped a proposal together. I purchased the Boeing 787 Dreamliner book from boeing and after reading it you just sit their and ask yourself what the hell is Airbus thinking on this one. Customers for the potentioal A350 are pulling Airbush in a hundered different directions. The whole program started as simply as possible they had the huge investment in the A380 and wanted somthing quick and easy with min design costs.

I myself was all set to begin building a home cockpit of a 737-700 for use in MSFlight sim but having done the research and gather of info I have decided to hold off and build a 787 cockpit instead. I built this site this week http://www.sim787.com to start housing all the info I gather.
