Default Quick discussion about deicer boots.

How do you guys clean and maintain deicer boots on aircraft? We have a caravan that has a belly deicer that gets coated in grease from the nose wheel assembly and the maintanence guy told me that the only way he could get the grease off was a mixture of purple (degreaser) and 100LL. I looked at him for a second and said I'm pretty sure you definetely do not want to use that stuff.

So my question is what products are out there for deicer boots and how exactly do you keep that boots prepped and cleaned.

Thanks.

DynCorps Contractors clean our plane. I'm pretty sure they only use good ole soap and water as we don't have your problem on the King Air, but I'll ask.

There are products specifically designed for cleaning and maintaining boots. I'm almost positive BF Goodrich makes the cleaner and the other stuff is called Ice-X.
