Default Woodworking

Wondering if anyone here is into woodworking and/or refinishing/restoration. After my father-in-law passed away, we inherited quite a bit of furniture that had been in the family for 100+ years. My husband and I rented a large truck and brought everything back from Kansas. One is an old cherry rolltop desk. The thing was so heavy, I almost killed myself lifting my end of it into the truck. It needs to be re-finished and I have neither the time or ability to do it. However, I am willing to pay someone (preferably from APC) to do the work for me. We'll negotiate a fair price.

My second question: I have a plain wooden jewelry box made of a light colored wood. I'd like to "burn" the recipient's initials on the lid. What is this process called and where can I get it done? Again, I probably won't be able to do it myself without burning my eyebrows off or setting the entire house on fire along with the aforementioned rolltop desk!

Vagabond,
In response to your second question. What you want to do is take it to a laser engraver. They will be able to make it look perfect and it is relatively cheap.
