Anyone here ever fly a hang glider?
If not, you owe it to yourself to do it, even if just once in your life. It'll give a whole new meaning to flying. Its sort of like eating an old shriveled up tomato in your burger at BK, and then comparing that to an organic home grown tomato free from all intrusion. Are both tomatoes? Yes. But the experience of the latter is more what God intended (before the FAA came in and screwed it all up). There is something that takes your breath away to hang up there with nothing but cloth lapping lightly above your head, and the only noise is the light wind of your forward movement. Its as close to being a bird as we terrestrial beings can ever be. Engines help to drag you further though. :D |

hang gliding sounds awsome. what sort of training is involved?

I'll go with "Rotate" too. Freeing the beast from the surly bonds of earth.
"Gear up" comes a very close second. Means you're now firmly in the air, and we're going for a ride.:D Does anyone else sometimes think it's nicer to stay outside and watch aircreft taking off / landing? You get to see the grace and the beauty. |

...the fact that you can wash the smell off.

Skimming the tops so I can get a sense of speed.
Getting put back in my seat on a repo flight when the thrust is set. |
I like when they don't touch the ground until I say it's time.

I love watching the transition of flight. Like when an airline retracts the gear... It's cool to see them from a ground beast to a flying beauty.
Agreed. Let me just add from rotation.....to gear up.......to flaps up and the smell of Jet A. Gotta love it.:D atp |

concept of flight. FranK was still alive and flying then on the dunes at Kill Devil hills. ANYONE can fly these, and yes, your senses tune in on sounds as your primary instrumentation along with the visuals... http://www.outer-banks.com/kittyhawk-kites/ |
