I just had a pretty long and tiring last day and on the flight home for the commute all I wanted to do was pass out. I happened to have one guy in his 50s sitting next to me, one of those pax. How does an airplane fly? How are we going to get from here to there? So what could I do, I proceeded to tell him everything until he was a sleep to which then I fell as sleep as well. It never ends.

It's funny to see them sweating bullets while I'm just reading or trying to sleep. I tell them we do it to save fuel and that the jets do it too, you just don't see the blades turning. Some of them totally think I'm still "BS" ing them.

Comair FA's used to include it as part of their brief along with "Don't panic. The white stuff you see coming out of the vents is condensation, not smoke".

What ever happened with that lawsuit filed against PSA(maybe Piedmont) because the woman claimed the vibrations of the t-prop gave her daughter an orgasm?

I had a flight the other night with a 220 knot tailwind which cut an hour off our time enroute. I made the usual anouncment telling them the weather at the destination and also said we would be arriving an hour early due to the strong tailwind which was giving us a groundspeed of around 730 mph. After everyone got off the plane one of the FA's said some passenger told her that I was wrong and there was absolutely no way we were going that fast because if we were we would have been breaking the sound barrier and he knew that was not possible in our airplane. I just wish he would of told the captain or myself that so we could explain to him the difference between groundspeed and airspeed.

I used to love taxiing the Brasillia single engine from the gate only to have the FA call and tell us that a passenger was wondering if we were going to start the other engine before we tookoff. Thanks we hadnt thought of that!

When calling to FA to see if she was ready for T/O she said a passenger made her promise that she would tell us fluid was pouring out the #1 on the Dash 8. The Fluid level was still ok but we remembered we had it filled before push. So we watched it for a min and sure enough we were bleeding somthing fierce.

A few years ago, after landing in OGG, a pax mentioned, as he was getting off, that we had lost a piece of the #3 engine pylon. I asked him when this had happened, and he said "about two hours ago". I checked, and sure enough, a blow out disk was missing from the #3 pylon. This is not an access panel, as I had hoped, but is a designed in weak point to relieve an overpressure in the pylon from a pneumatic leak. We had no indication on the flight deck that anything was out of the ordinary. We were on the ground for two days while parts were flown in.

I would like to think that I would have found the problem without the pax mentioning it, but it was raining hard, and the winds were 30 knots, and I didn't have my raincoat.

I was deadheading out of DEN a few weeks back. After the crew started the right (#2) engine, a panic stricken passenger worriedly announced loud enough for everyone to hear,"Why didn't the left engine start?!?!?" Then, after the crew started the left (#1) engine, all the passengers clapped and cheered. I think I almost convulsed a little after that incident...

We always joke that we are developing the PDT rotating single engine cruise, but that means we'd need to get window shadows on the mighty dash.

When I get asked a question I just respond "I'm not really a pilot, I just got the uniform at the thrift store and wear it so I can bypass security"
