anybody riding motorcycles?

What kind of bike do you ride??

whatthe6789 01-08-2009 03:34 PM

1977 KZ650/H... Sometimes you have to fight it to get it to run, but when it does, it makes it all worth it.

Mitragorz 01-08-2009 07:57 PM

2002 Yamaha YZF600R. IMO, greatest all-around sportbike made, and I did A LOT of research before I made my purchase. It fits my needs perfectly (700+ mile day-trips, plenty fast enough). I'll add to the stable for sure, but I'll never get rid of it :)

Jetset0045 01-13-2009 08:11 PM

Bought my first bike last fall ....'03 Kawai Ninja 250....what a great little bike to start on!!...Light, handles well, cheap and easy to operate, and just quick enough! Live in the northeast though...can't wait for the warm weather again! :D

afterburn81 01-13-2009 09:41 PM

I've been a bike guy ever since I was about 6 when I got my 1st dirtbike. After a few Jap bikes I have found my peace with and Italian ride. I got a good deal on a late model Ducati 900 SuperSport. Looks good and sounds absolutely amazing with an aftermarket exhaust. Those twins make lots of torque that is easily tamed.

Photon 01-13-2009 10:29 PM

I have a 2004 GSX-R 600, only means of transportation for me at the moment, and I love it :).
It always beckons me to go faster though, and it's nearly impossible to keep it under the speed limit :p

normajean21 01-13-2009 10:52 PM

i see some seniority numbers movin on up :)

Photon 01-13-2009 10:53 PM

I'm not on any list yet, so don't keep your hopes up :p

rotorhead1026 01-14-2009 01:05 AM

Well, I HAD a GS1100E and a GPz 1100, both 1982. I'm overseas now and they were both just sitting, so I sold them to good homes where they'lll get plenty of use. I'll be back on board one when I get back home.

That's one I've got my eyes on!

Gee, that's a really high-class comment. Your attitude is similar to the general public's regarding ... pilots.

Seven6SevenDCA 01-14-2009 08:49 AM

Suzuki 2007 GSX-R 750. Bought it new, ran up 1000 street miles to break it in, then started doing track days. Don't ride on the street anymore.

Photon 01-14-2009 11:01 AM

man, trackdays sound so fun, but it seems like the closest one is like 4-5 hours from here =(

normajean21 01-14-2009 07:01 PM

theres always the flip side to that. pilots believing there are only pilots and trash in this world :)

there isn't?

GSX-R 600, eh? Good info on other forums for trackdays.

Kilgore Trout 01-15-2009 04:08 AM

So there I was...

Have had two bikes. Nothing fancy.
Had a old Suzuki SP-125 that I used to get around on when I was in college.
One day I was coming around a corner (at the speed limit) and a car coming the other way turned in front of me.
Bike ended up on his hood, I smashed the windshield with my helmet, and broke my wrist. My groinal area hurt pretty good too, but superficial damage luckily.
Bike was totalled, his car might have been too, never found out. It was a little car and got banged up pretty good, and his insurance company covered my injuries, my bike, and gave me an extra $4k (which I did not ask for). Used the extra money to get my instrument rating and for some food.
Worked out well strangely enough.
Had a KLR-650 too a few years ago. That was fun and I managed to avoid hitting anything.
Big on helmets.

Don't you live next Daytona? Speaking of Daytona... anyone going to the Rolex 24?

I live in Daytona yes, but I don't think they let motorcycles on the speedway?

Puckhead 01-15-2009 01:07 PM

Well i would really love to get one but being 21 and male is killer on the insurance. I like the Yamaha YZF600 though and hopefully someday will be able to afford one when they dont consider me such a risk. Anyone have and good ideas on what are some good bikes to start on? Like I said I am kinda partial to the crotch rocket style but maybe thats because Im young and feel invincible......:D

Photon 01-15-2009 02:53 PM

I would say at least don't go higher than a 600 on a starter bike. And do a MSF course first

mshunter 01-15-2009 06:50 PM

'02 CBR600F4I. Yosh RS3 full system, yosh pwr comander, erion cams, K&N, Works Connection suspension, Galfer brake lines & pads w'wave rotors, Ohlins dampner, Pirelli Super Corsa's soft front, medium rear. 1:23.3 best at Willow Springs.

Bike is currently in a heap. Last time out in the canyons I lost the front end at 70, and she rolled into the ditch:(. That was 3 years ago. I guess haveing a kid puts my toys on hold.:p

Used to own a 00 GSXR750 but didn't like it. It was a good bike, plenty of power and light to fling around, but the honda just fits my riding style better. When I start makeing some real money, I want a Duck!

Edit: forgot about the 520 chain conversion. I actually felt a change in how quick the thing flicks around with this conversion. Conversion is from Supersprox, "Stealth 520 Conversion."

ryan1234 01-15-2009 06:59 PM

yeah photon is right... 600s have a lot of power....enough power ...usually when it comes to riding .. it isn't if you wreck.. it's when... I've already had mine on an F4i.. and it sucks... two of my friends my age have died on bikes. Sometimes it isn't you, but all the other people (specifically the old people who can't see). After I got married, I stopped riding.

Photon: A while ago I had the opportunity to ride a 996 at Daytona... not as fast as I would have liked but it was enough to take the bank (it is a very steep bank up close!!- 31 degrees doesn't sound steep but it is on a bike!) I'm not sure if they do it anymore, but I'll check into it and ask around... they might.. and it is def. worth it..... just got to remember when to slow down!! Roebling Road up in GA does the track days.. and it is a really fun course... maybe Sebring.. but I haven't been there.

Indeed the 600 has enough. 0-60 in 3 seconds, and 150 before you can start to think, you really don't need more power, at the very least not for your starter bike.
Hehe, riding on the speedway would be awesome to be sure :p. Getting your "kicks" on the roads gets illegal very fast

whatthe6789 01-16-2009 06:37 AM

I started out with (and still have) a 650, but it was made in 1977... But STILL has plenty of power to begin with, but just not enough to go out and kill yourself (easily)...

Be carefull with this statement, you could kill youself on a CFR50. My grandfather used to race desert when bikes has 2-3" of travel, and had a friend kill himself riding 30yds away to take a leak. He droped his bike, and hit his head just right. However, this was when they wore leathher helmets:p.

Right on about doing the MSF course. Don't even need your own bike to do this 2 day course.

The Kawasaki 250 Ninja is an excellent choice. I've heard Kawasaki sells them literally by the boatload. Have a look at the February 2009 issue of RoadRacingWorld, two seperate articles which features the Ninja 250R, on the track.

Photon, I didn't know Seneca was in Florida. JenningsGP has trackdays every month of the year. Maybe not too far away?

1995 Yamaha YZF600R. It's been a good bike to me, even though I've been rough on it at times. About 43,000 miles, still going. It'll do anything the 1000cc bikes will, and the newer 600's are just sick also, but obviously not as fast. Never done a track-day with it, but might or might not've done similiar types of riding in TN/NC area's.

I also own a 02' 1100 V-star Classic, it's my ice-cream getter, and wife transporter! I like it and all, but still the sportiness of my other bike is what I prefer.

And I'll also attest to the 2 types of riders, those that have, and those that will! Be safe, and always wear a lid.

Piper Senecas are everywhere :p
The one you linked there is just by the Georgia border, would take a nice hike to get up there =). I live in Daytona myself

Yeah, I try not to do anything stupid on mine, but for sure I always wear my helmet, its just dumb not to...

And I know you don't even need a motor to kill yourself, heck, you could do it on a Huffy, but you have to not have much common sense to do so, or just be reckless in general, which I like to believe that I'm not..

2004 Suzuki DR-Z400 E

I have a 2004 DR-Z 400 E. It as a street legal kit and supermoto wheels. It has been tuned up to about 47hp, it's louder than a Harley and its way too much fun considering it only weighs about 275 lbs. I need to put the dirt wheels back on before I get another ticket.

rotorhead1026 01-17-2009 12:07 AM

but just not enough to go out and kill yourself (easily)...
Reminds me about the comment regarding the J3 Cub ... "It's the safest airplane around - it can just barely kill you". :)

but being 21 and male is killer on the insurance

Insurance? What? :D

2006 HD 1200 Sportster Custom. I did not intend on owning a motorcyle ever again. However, the TBM owner gave me the bike in lieu of the back wages he could not pay me. Plenty of time to ride now because the TBM was repossessed. I love the freedom and its a great time to be riding in Florida.

Seven6SevenDCA 01-18-2009 09:59 PM

Fotos of your ride?

Mostly because I don't know the Harley models at all. Some nice ones out there.

2007 Yamaha V-Star 1100. It's good for me because it helps me stay slow. I can't do the crotch rockets anymore. I had a 1984 Honda VFR 500 and I almost killed myself on it. Waaay too fast for my itchy throttle hand. ;)

You should check out what the 600cc bikes can do now, it's sickening. Most are around 110-120hp and weigh 380 or less.

I do love my V-star, it's got Cobra pipe's on it, sounds pretty good, not too loud, but just enough if you want it to.
