Does anybody know what nickname United Airlines gives their 747s? (eg:737= Guppy or Super Guppy)

My brother was a mechanic there for 10 years. He always just called it a whale. But then again, that was a mechanic. They also referred to the DC-10 as the MF-10, or the MF'ing-10. You can figure out what it means.

I don't know if it's a "United" thing, but the 747 has been referred to as "the Whale".
And "the Guppy" is the Airbus

The older 747 models, 747-100 and 747-200 were referred to as the "rope starts".

I thought the airbus was called "the scud"

New Airbus pilot: "where's it going! What's it doing?
Old Airbus pilot: "there is goes again"

The Guppy is the 737.

I've also heard the Airbus referred to as the "Scarebus" and "Eurotrash", and the 757 as the "lady" (for slender body, long legs and big boobs- err, engines)

As the Fireman mentioned, the older 747's were refered to as the "rope starts", the 747-400 is just called "the 400".

"The Super Guppy aircraft was acquired by NASA from the European Space Agency under an International Space Station barter agreement. Manufactured by Airbus Industries, ESA supplied the aircraft to offset the cost to NASA of carrying ESA experiment equipment to the station as part of two future Space Shuttle flights" A "converted" Boeing.

The BOEING "Pregnant Guppy" was the 337 Stratocruiser (?)

Airbus also had the "beluga"
