The Elements of Style - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Glad you brought this up. The book is readily available and is an excellent gift for a high school (or college) graduate. Highly recommended!

Just wondering how many of you who could "care less" about spelling and word usage, would hire someone whose resume/job application was filled with errors? Would "attention to detail" not even be factored in? My girlfriend and her boss have been interviewing individuals for a couple of positions in their company. One of the "interviewees" had a great resume but had made a few "mistakes" on it. She was in the running for the position, but was nixed since the position was one that required "attention to detail". When they told the woman she was one of the cadidates being considered but her resume had "no attention to detail", she didn't know what to say. It cost her a job, and no, it WASN'T a high paying job. ($25,000 starting salary + benefits). I think what many of us (at least some of us) are trying to say is, is that if you take so little time to learn to spell/punctuate/use/speak right, then why would you think it'd be okay to hire you?
