Got the GA Bug

It's such a nice day in Seattle today, I've got a yearning to putter around in something that burns gasoline and has one of them twirly thingies up front! Somebody with an RV-8 (or something like it) keeps flying over my house taunting me! Someday.....

Anybody else?

proskuneho 02-04-2009 03:54 PM

I have 1200 hrs, mostly instructing in planes with one or two of those twirly things up front. I do love GA and I always will, but I REALLY want to GO SOMEWHERE ELSE in something faster...

EYELS 02-04-2009 03:58 PM

“Someday” isn’t an impossible dream anymore. Not with LSA costing $110-$130k new. The Cirrus SRS, in particular, looks really cool to me. LSA manufacturers just need to make sure that two adults (about 400 lbs) can take off with full fuel and fly 3+ hours plus VFR reserves. Right now, for instance, you can’t load two adults in to a new Cessna Skycatcher and fill it with fuel.

waflyboy 02-04-2009 04:20 PM

$110K!?!?! Hell, I wish I could afford a powered parachute! ;)

Yes, very true though. I'd like to get involved with LSA. I believe this will be the next GA segment to see some growth.

Sounds like a 152...

Saw this on Fox News. Wish I had the money for this...

Anyone Can Fly On The Scene FOXNews.com

usmc-sgt 02-04-2009 06:28 PM

Dont fight it.

This took my father and I roughly 18 months of VERY part time work and roughly 60 thousand dollars. I try to get up every chance I can and typically fly at least once a week when weather permits.

HUH! I call 'em "Bug Smashers." No bugs in the flight levels. I got into aviation to fly, not to push buttons. Build something cool, like this>http://www.legendaryaircraft.com/<. I can dream can't I:cool: Best part is, I work at the airport. Mabey I could start washing airplanes?

<--- see avatar. I have to get my fix after a couple days in the CRJ just to get my mind right again.

Cubdriver 02-05-2009 04:27 AM

low and slow...

I am not sure what I would be living for if I could not fly the C185 tailwheel airplane to do glider tows, drop skydrivers in a modified C182 (->short field TO's in 85 feet) and troll around at 800 AGL teaching 8's on pylons. I'll get to the big jets one day, but I am in no hurry.

They put me through C750 initial this week at FSI. Mostly I see a very automated machine that goes way fast and is optimized for getting from point A to point B quickly. What about everything else...:)

Nice looking craft! What is it?

usmc-sgt 02-05-2009 06:52 AM

It is a highlander. http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/ha...staircraft.com

This is not mine but the same model with bush wheels. This airplane is not for a pansy that needs a whisper quiet cockpit and 150 knot cruise. This plane does about 100 MPH but can land in under 300 feet over a 50 foot obstacle with a 27 MPH stall.

I did not intend for it to be that large. Oh well.

Is this an ultimate? I taught acro and unusual attitudes for a little over a year and I miss it quite a bit. Im trying to find a few local guys with approved planes to mess around with without having to instruct again. I may have a christen eagle connection I could swing. Fun times.

bleh! no autopilot, and probably no CDI either<instert sarcasim here>. Sure looks like fun. The best I can muster is a Super D I have to rent from my employer. Still fun, but not as much as "Big Bird." Thats what I'd call her if she were mine:cool:.

kerns bbo 02-05-2009 08:22 PM

No, not Big Bird. She is Pterodactyl Rex. As in the king of flying dinosaurs. (1200lbs and 370hp)

It is a one of a kind reverse engineered pitts/eagle.

In the element:

Holy crap, prepare for launch, bet that is an absolute rocket in the climb. What's Vne for something that light and strong?

pete2800 02-06-2009 07:54 PM

1200 lbs and 370 horses? Yikes....

The following would be fun, and insane....

Turbine Legend Aircraft || Innovative Wings

proskuneho 02-06-2009 08:01 PM

Furthermore, you can't formation fly 4 RJs and land on the runway at the same time:D

Turbines and aerobatics don't mix to well. Remember Wayne Handley and the Turbo Raven? Here is the link. I think it was ruled as a compressor stall due to high AOA. Airshow Crash/Wayne Handley's "Turbo-Raven" Engine Failure www.kbvp.com. If I remember right, he said the ignitor wasn't working properly and it quit on him because he coulden't keep the fire lit. But damn, that thing looks like fun!
