Default Sharing Entrees: It's Cool Now

I don't know what this reporter is talking about really. My husband and I have been splitting entrees and desserts since our first date 20+ years ago. Any restaurant that sneered at us got put on our Never Go There Again list. Our money is worth the same as the next person.

$18 bucks for a hamburger? I wonder how much a package of Ramen noodles costs in NYC.

Vagabond, you're like all smart and stuff, and a lawyer, right? I was wondering if you have any legal data or research about why some restaurants changed their slogan from "All You Can Eat" to "All You CARE to Eat". Were there accidents and lawsuits because of the earlier policy?

All you care to eat is an offer, all you can eat is a challenge. It sounds more polite too.

...and if they think its disgusting to share the same plate, how hard is it for them to bring another plate to the table? Hell, there are sometimes 3 plates on the table before you even sit down.

It doesnt hurt either for...whats the polite way to say it nowadays...the fatties? Split a plate, knock down calorie intake by 50%. Easier than hitting the gym

I've only seen that attitude in certain areas of NYC. I'm sure they're some uppity places everywhere, both here and in Europe. I don't see it at all in the midwest, even at Maisonette when they were open. Most Americans won't tolerate such an attitude. Vote with your pocketbook, and tip appropriately. Despite what some of the interviewees seem to say, you don't have to ask permission to split an order. Anywhere.

<---- Buster says they'd better not object to doggie bags, either!

Its cool, so at least they try to market it that way, so the baby boomers don't feel OLD.

I say, if a waiter/waitress give me attitude because I wanna share, then there went their tip

Just remember that splitting an entree doesn't mean the waiter is only taking care of one person. If you both run him/her around for your food then tip accordingly... I've worked in restaurants for most of my life and the best advice for anyone is to not upset someone that can spit in your food or buy everyone dinner with your CC info..

I'll often go out to eat with a very good friend of mine and we'll share. We'll get a separate appetizer (I love the beet salad, and he does too so we get two), then we'll get a pasta dish, share that, and then share an entree. I like that because we get to try more food and we don't get stuffed. It's actually cheaper too - so it works out both ways. I think it's a very good approach - and the server has never given us grief.
