STATUE of LIBERTY FLY BY

Statue of Liberty flyby startles New Yorkers

Saw this on yahoo and thought of sharing it. I don't have sound on this computer but I'm sure the fly by was some sort of military covert ops(jk).

FAA is saying its a scheduled photo op with once of the VC-25s.

Military covert ops? Considering that this was done out in the open in public, I don't think you would classify this as covert.

The military and the FAA should have released information just prior to the fly-by to local news and police authorities. They didn't have to release that it was going to be an VC-25.

Regardless, people need to relax. One evening, my base had hundreds of phonecalls from the public, 911 dispatchers, and the NJ State Police because of a military aircraft that was in an FAA holding pattern. Many of the people thought the aircraft was circling to hit a building in NYC.

I've seen a test like that in Texas near bush's ranch. I saw a low flying solid white 737 flying low level over Waco Texas being tailed by f16's, the f16's were also shooting flares out in front of the 73. It was wild to watch. That wasn't long after 9/11.

Im grew up around that area, and saw the 9/11 attacks from my balcony when I was just a teen. I can totally see why a good amount of people were frenetic. It was just a bad judgment call for not alerting the public in the area.

If you were in charge of security would you be saying the same thing?

What cracks me up is, it isn't like the people who live there don't see airplanes flying very close to the ground. Sure, not circling the Statue of Liberty .. but look at the LGA and EWR visual arrivals. And then through in all traffic flying visual up the rivers.

From a security standpoint, I wouldn't want people (i.e. potentially bad guys) to know that this was going to be happening. I agree with the Air Force. The people will get over this in about two seconds.

Seriously ... they could have released the information within 15 minutes .. TV and radio. And there would have been nothing the bad guys could have done.

Even if they would have, the VC-25 isn't exactly a sitting duck.

How many post cards do you think they will have to sell to pay for this photo op?
