Default What is APC to You?

Time for my annual reality check/feedback extravaganza. With the great increase of new members and a concomitant increase in lurkers and view-only people, I am curious to know the following:

1) What does APC mean to you (assuming it means anything at all)?
2) How often do you log on here?
3) What is your favorite activity while here?
4) Do you use APC primarily as a knowledge resource or more social, like keeping in touch or making new friendships?
5) What other features would you like to see here?
6) Do you have any concerns about the site?
7) Do you think APC is moving in a direction that enhances aviation and the airline industry? If not, how is it not?

If you'd rather not make your responses public, feel free to PM me instead.

This thread will self-destruct in 30 days.

1) APC is a site filled with valuable information along with a wide variety of opinions, of which I find unique and interesting.
2) At least once a day.
3) Photo section, then Hangar talk, and sometimes the Military forum
4) I like APC more for its knowledge.
5) I would like to see local APC events.
6) No concerns at the moment.
7) I believe Airline Pilot Central has made a positive influence on the industry, more or less because of the wide array of knowledge, and input from many dedicated users over the years.

1) APC was at one time a great resource. I've been around here long enough to remember when there were only about 100 members. Since then the valuable info has been a little harder to find.
2) Depends. I can go days at a time. If I'm sitting on reserve it's more like once an hour.
3) Photos, the flight training forums and Hangar Talk
4) It used to be a good resource. However as membership has increased it's become more of a "my regional/major/flight school is better than yours" contest.
5) None really
6) See #4. I think a little more active moderation would help keep things focused at times.
7) APC has lost some of the original appeal. If it wasn't for the photos and some Hangar talk topics I would likely not be on here much at all any more.

I will take a stab at a couple of questions...
1) I look at it mostly as a knowledge database and how pilots feel about their jobs and how the airlines are doing.
2) at least 3 times a day
3) Reading forums and looking at airline profiles. I like to read the flight training, photos, sections mostly.
5) I have read some excellent threads here that has much value to student pilots and the pros. I think if there was a compilation of those threads it would not only be a great refresher but also a great learning tool.

I haven't been on as long as "pip" but I agree with what he says here.

When I first started, I thought this was one of the more "upscale" forums I was visiting. Seems to be more about blame than helping each other anymore.

Still good though... Just different than it was.

APC means alot to me:

1) It helps me to keep a finger on the pulse of the aviation community. It has also help me to choose a flight school and sort out a career path based on all of the info I've come across since joining.

2) I log on now about three times a week.

3) Actually I like the Pilot Lounge section, even though I have access to the Regional Thread, I enjoy the Hangar Talk section because a wider variety of topics come up that I enjoy discussing.

4) Primarily as a knowledge base.

Just like Pilotpip said, I'll say this....when I joined back in January of 2006, things were much different. I had a chance to exchange with Cargo, Major and Corporate pilots. Based upon that early contact, my knowledge of the industry as a whole and its inner workings grew. I remember alot of the old heads.....LA Frequentflyer; RedEye; SWApilot; calcapt; Kill Bill, Browntail, boxhauler, and many others....including SkyHigh. People were quite helpful during those days.

5) Everything seems ok at this point.

6) Yes, personally, I think that maybe one or two of the Mods need to relax a little and let people aire their differences and make their point about a particular issue or subject. I fully understand the TOS and am glad it's in place, however to penalize one person for violating the TOS and not another....when the same infraction occured....well that comes across as being biased to me. JMO.

7) I think that it does. Just gotta really try to get over to the participants that all the put downs, name calling and so on has to stop. My take on it is, if they do here, they'll do it on the flight deck and I wouldn't want to work/fly with any one like that.

1) What does APC mean to you (assuming it means anything at all)?
A place to get info on the pulse of the industry as a whole
2) How often do you log on here?
3x a week or so
3) What is your favorite activity while here?
the chance to debate differing opinions
4) Do you use APC primarily as a knowledge resource or more social, like keeping in touch or making new friendships?
knowledge resource
5) What other features would you like to see here?
more hyperlink type resources for career guidence
6) Do you have any concerns about the site?
Other than the fact that membership has jumped because of a wealth of angry unemployed pilots using this forum to trash aviation...
7) Do you think APC is moving in a direction that enhances aviation and the airline industry? If not, how is it not?
It has definate potential, but lately almost every thread seems to be a airline A pilot against airline B pilot flamefest....again mostly because of the state of the industry and a lot of pilots not having anything else to do...literally. Somedays seems every single furloughed pilot thinks its some other pilot that "stole his job", just a little maturity is what Id like to see

Wow atpwannabe thanks for the trip down memory lane, that really does take me back. Honestly, at first, before I even officially became a member, I would mostly check out the main page without clicking over to the forums. I also remember that every time I would click over to the forums I never failed to see a post from Freight Dawg. It’s not like I went looking for his posts, it was just a sure thing that I would run into at least one of them, guaranteed!

Good times!

I wonder whatever became of browntail and kill bill. I wonder if browntail really did work for UPS; boy did he get a lot attention while he was on here!
