And I wont buy anything leather or made in Japan.

So you never wear leather shoes? What do you do at work? Japan? Whale Wars I guess. Why can't the Japs harvest a few whales?

Beef is good, but Buffalo is better. I think it tastes better, plus it's healthier than beef.

There's a buffalo farm just down the road from the airport where they do everything from raise the buffalo to slaughtering and selling them. And for all the anti-big business hippies, it supports a local family business, rather than those large multi-national soy conglomerates (ok, I realize that's a bit of an exageration, but still where can you find a family made soy-burger or Tofurkey?).

I'll second the venison comments. A buddy of mine makes his own venison sausages which are absolutely amazing.

Check out the book "Omnivore's Dilemma" as well as the documentary "King Corn". Both are really interesting looks at corn and the food industry in America.

Lost weight

Oh yea, I also have lost weight since I started eating my own cows. However growing your own meat does reduce the drive to hunt a bunch. We also raise our own turkeys. This spring I couldn't see going out to hunt one when I had a dozen in my yard.

Hey Sky, do you get grass fed cow meat at the regular grocery store or do you go to a specialty shop, or maybe an actual butcher? I would really like to give it a try. Thanks

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Vegans are delicious.

If you have a whole foods near you that is one of the easiest ways to go. Normally a butcher in store that dwarfs a groccery store meat section.

Hot Shot

Hey guys, Hot Shot simply said pointed out his views on the health advantages of being a vegan. While he stated his life choices, he attacked no one here for their choice of walking out of a steakhouse, putting on a leather jacket, climbing on a new Honda Fury and riding away. If he would have attacked people here for their choices, then I would not be posting this.

Before you guys flame me, I ate a GREAT steak last night, have several leather jackets, own guns and grew up a hunter. While Im not crazy about whaling, "Whale Wars" makes me mad.

As a struggling big city airline pilot my wife and I dreamed of living a rural life in the country. Neither of us ever expected to be able to afford to do it as a pilot however after I was laid off and started my own business within a few short years I was able to build my dream house on acreage for my family.

Once we had the land I then had to figure out what to do with it. I took classes and studied several small business models as a hay farm and growing corn. After some education I determined that the land is best suited for growing cattle. We have good irrigation and a stream. The grass grows fast and thick. There are some low growing trees to provide shelter for the cows.

Two years ago we bought two yearling black Angus calves. Since then we have bought more black Angus/Hereford cross cows and calves. We are slowly growing a herd as my confidence and knowledge grows. Last fall I was able to secure a brand. A year ago we butchered our first steer. I was leery and did not hold any high expectations however when the meat came back from the butcher it was fantastic.

I did not expect the added health benefits. Now I am hooked and we are hoping to grow a small grass fed free range natural beef business that caters to people who live in the city and want to know where their food comes from. I would love to get you some but I think that we are on opposite sides of the country.

While I have never seen Hotshot. Why is it that when you see a Vegan, it looks like the slightest breeze will blow them over? They don't look healthy. Then again I am not the most fit person in the room. All I am saying is if you are vegan you cannot have anything leather or even imation leather (you are condoning it).

BTW I would love to harpon a Whale if it tasted good. Whaling can be done responsibly I don't know if the Japanese are responsible but lets give them the benifit of the doubt.
