I happened to go by this former grass field that is now a giant horse pasture (without horses). There are two C-150s, a Cessna 310, Mooney, and a Varga Kachina. I really like the Kachina, but the grass has not been mowed for a long time, and all the airplanes are in rough shape. Before the field shut down, I talked to the guy who owned it, he wanted $12,000 for each!!!!
Since I'm starting on my A&P on Monday, I thought I could talk the town into letting me take it off their hands for $1000, and get some experience by fixing them up over a period of time.
Has anyone done this, and what are people's thoughts on this? Here's a photo of the Kachina.

And this is what the paint looked like about a year ago on one of the -150s, but now it's little worse. This is what the rest of the airplanes look like, some of the cowlings are held on with bungee cords.

I flew a Varga once, it was pretty fun. I wouldn't give him anywhere near 12K for any of those... There's a guy on my field that buys crashed or junked planes, fixes them and sells them. Don't think he makes alot of money, but it sounds like fun to me... of course I like all things experimental so I might be biased.
