Exciting landing in OSH

YouTube - Airbus A380 Hard Landing At Oshkosh 2009

What do you think? "hard landing" or just a lightly loaded aircraft in a strong crosswind?

Planespotta 07-29-2009 06:59 PM

Putting 'er down early enough to take the only taxiway robust enough to handle the 380. Maybe they could've handled the x-wind a little better, but what do I know though . . . I wasn't in the cockpit, and I'm not Super-typed. I'd say it was appropriate.

That wing flex sent chills down my spine :D

If the video means *difficult* when it says "hard" then I agree. Looks like he planted it on purpose - like I do when I'm a little worried about landing distance.

Oh wait....I forgot - I plant every landing;)

True....but I lied a little. Sometimes I try to squeak one on a little - just to give the old girls a break! :o:D

I was on a WN flight the other day into BHM.....the pilot had to have been a former Navy/USMC guy....

Cool video, though. :)

Land any softer and you can't get the wings to wave at the crowd. :D

Looks like perfectly a perfectly acceptable crosswind technique to me, don't flare! Eliminates floating and virtually assures not going off the far end of the runway!

+1 --I'd rather wave the wings at the crowd than go off the end of the runway because I was going for style points.

The commenter was kinda of a douche.
Yes, the guy landing the 380 did put it on firm, I assume he did so it would not float. Landing a light widebody gets interesting. It usually goes float...floaty, float bamn.
So far I have never seen the wings flex when I land a 74 or A-300. Then again I don't think anyone has ever taped on of my landings (at least to my knowledge).
He could have been a little better on the rudder usage and longitudinal alignment. Anybody know what the winds were?
