Small plane crashes in Austin

Apparently it was near the FBI building...

Plane crashes into Northwest Austin building | kvue.com | Austin News, Local News, Breaking News, Weather | Local News

acl65pilot 02-18-2010 08:06 AM

Near but not the same structure.

2StgTurbine 02-18-2010 08:22 AM

Now they are saying the pilot set his/her house on fire right before this.

TPROP4ever 02-18-2010 08:26 AM

one station is reporting that the fire is being fueled by tons of jetfuel leaking from the building, way to go CaNNt. And another is saying that its a private plane the owner purposly flew into the IRS offices out of despair...... guesss we'll get the newest developments at the top of the hour....

Da Magic 02-18-2010 08:41 AM

TSA is gonna have a field day with this... Apparently he set his house on fire, then stole an airplane, and crashed it into the IRS building.... WOW

KiloAlpha 02-18-2010 08:43 AM

I just learned what an "unmanned airstrip" is

I would expect the TSA, or some similar government entity, to indeed run with this. If nothing else it blows a big hole in AOPA's stance that small aircraft are incapable of being used as weapons of terror.

Light aircraft G/A has been hanging by an unraveling rope since 911. Sad, but a reality. AOPA's relatively new president now has his hands full, and then some.

Come on, give them some credit. The broadcasters have zero experience with general aviation. Their actual aviation experts have said that the aircraft probably had about 40 gallons of fuel.

Also, if the IRS was his target, then he missed. The IRS office is located in the same complex but a different building. So far no deaths other than the pilot, but two are injured. If this is true, it is amazing that not more were injured or killed.

They are going to have to go after pickup trucks and minvans next. Unless you doubt a pickup truck could do the same damage?

Fishfreighter 02-18-2010 11:26 AM

So much for bypassing security by using the GA terminal.

mmaviator 02-18-2010 02:18 PM

Is there any threads or discussion about the plane crash in california? Saw it on CNN scrolling news.

KC10 FATboy 02-18-2010 02:59 PM

This could be the nail in the coffin for the GA community.

If you're talking about the one yesterday, it was a C310, took-off in fog, shortly after, crashed. 3 aboard were killed, all three were employees of Tesla, the electric sports car company.

I don’t think so. If he stole a plane then that might be the case, but it was his own plane. Even if the TSA was there to make sure every person who crossed the fence took their shoes off, this still would have happened.

The debate over GA security will last for a week, and then the public/media will jump on something else, maybe Tiger Woods again.

Sweet Jeebus! Was this guy a sleeper cell for Glenn Beck's teabagging movement?

He sure had a hard-on for government and taxes.

Hey Kieth, I actually see a case of BDS. Sounds like one of you guys. Of course we could ask Bill Ayers if this guy went far enough.

The evidence so far doesn't support that. Here's what ABC and the Southern Poverty Law Center (a group that tracks right wing militia and hate groups) is saying:

Patriot Movement Calling Joe Stack a Hero - ABC News

- "Gestapo-like tactics."

- "The IRS is out of control!"

- "Which would you prefer: having your wallet or purse stolen or being audited by the IRS?"

- "Well Mr. Big Brother IRS Man, let's try something different, take my pound of flesh and sleep well."

As it turns out, only the last statement came from Joe Stack. The rest came from some of the leading voices of the Republican Party during its late 1990's crusade against the IRS.

Some of us love Big Brother so much that even the most pathetic of the insane are seen as a threat.

Enjoy it while you can, I've found that cheap wind up toys invariably fail due to poor design of the mainspring.:D

Austin Attack Puts Spotlight on Anti-IRS Violence, Rhetoric | Crooks and Liars

Funny I am well aware of both ABC and the southern poverty law center. I doubt if anyone at the SPLC voted for McCain what do you think? That said would you like me to post the left wind dribble actually included in the unabombers manifesto. Oops I meant joe stacks manefesto. Again would bill ayers approve of his tactics? Had he lived would AG Holder worked for a pardon like he did for the FALN terrorists?

Gentlemen, kindly refrain from direct political references here. It is kind of pointless when both sides would love to distract us with any available sideshow while gutting us and chewing contentedly on our liver.

Thank you.:D

Possibly, but sometimes it is more fun to hand an individual a good sturdy length of rope, one that allows at least an eight foot drop, and let them play with it.

Frankly I find it amazing that the spinmeisters on either side seek to capitalize on the desperate suicidal act of an insane man, but there seems to be no shortage of the gullable.

I like Al Gore's idea of doing away with the income tax completely and replacing it with a carbon tax.

A radical notion but within a decade or two, we could stop dumping trillions of military dollars down some desert rat hole in the middle east to secure the energy we're stealing.

There's a huge hidden cost for energy that big oil would prefer you not think about. The $3 a gallon at the pump is only a fraction the cost we're subsidizing with our tax dollars.

FDXLAG 02-28-2010 11:53 AM

How do you feel about opening up our offshore reserves for drilling so we can stop "stealing" from your arab buddies?

Thought so.

We didn't go into Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction, or a link between 9-11 and Saddam Hussein, or to bring democracy to the Middle East. The United States was determined to replace Hussein's regime with one that would prove friendly to American oil interests.

Thank You for posting that Grave link. All political views aside, there was a helluva lot of screwed up sh!T going on over there that no longer exists. Oil or not, there is no longer a nationwide selective genocide. I hope it will stay that way.

It should be fixed now. I must have posted the wrong link... not sure how that one got there, I've never seen that TOS page before.

Do you not find it ironic that the UN reports on climate say that carbon taxes will have zero effect on climate? You have read the reports?

It is indeed ironic that Gore has positioned himself to make a great deal of money in "carbon markets". You seem to be confused about which man will be keeping you down.

Got cheaper energy? Where is it? Please let us all know the source that you seem to believe exists.
Stealing indeed. A nice eight foot drop so far. Thanks.
