Default 30 NM from vor....

and you have half scale deflection. If the CDI has 4 dots (some have 2) you would be 2.5 miles off course at full scale. Agreed? The number of dots is confusing me tho, bc every single manual that talks about scale deflection is always in "dots". So what is the answer? 2.5 miles? Thanks!

Depends on how much each dot represents. Assuming that it's the normal 10 degrees for full scale deflection, that mean that half deflection equals 5 degrees off course.

If 5 degrees off course, equals 5 miles deviation at 60 miles, (rule of 60) than 1/2 scale at 30 miles equals 2.5 miles.
