Space Shuttles New Retirement Homes
Shuttles' future homes: Fla., Calif., D.C. and N.Y. - Technology & science - Space - msnbc.com
Doggone it, Seattle's Museum of Flight got kicked in the nads again. At least we got a trainer. It will be a great addition to an already impressive collection of aircraft and spacecraft.

In Seattle, I wish they'd use the money to enclose the Concorde, 747 #1, and the original Air Force One. Last time I visited, each of those aircraft were looking pretty bad.
So it looks like it'll go here:

I think they're all good places except for the California one. That's ridiculous that they should get one over...oh I don't know...maybe Houston where all the Shuttle missions were ran?

She was looking pretty tired sitting out there in the weather.

The justification given for the locations was that one should go to Kennedy where all the shuttle missions began. OK, I can see that. And I can agree that one should be at the National Air and Space Museum. The California shuttle location was chosen because they were built there. I'm thinking that is a real stretch. The museum there is not exactly on the map.
But, the Intrepid shuttle goes to the Hornet aircraft carrier because the Hornet picked up Mercury and Gemini space capsules. All right - I'm calling BS on this one. Mercury and Gemini ... REALLY?
I'm in Ohio and we wanted a shuttle for the Air Force Museum in Dayton. It's a GREAT facility, lots of really significant aircraft there, millions of visitors a year. I admit that maybe Houston should have gotten one prior to Dayton, but the Intrepid/Hornet? YGBSM

They also landed in CA frequently.
There's also a great deal of aerospace in CA, or at least there was back in the day.
And the west coast pays a lot of taxes...we probably paid for at least one of the shuttles in the first place!
I think they did a reasonable job of allocating them. NASA and the smithsonian, duh. It would have been unfair not to send one to the west coast. Since the enterprise never flew in space, that's a lesser item, but not sure why it didn't go to the midwest somewhere.
I am kind of annoyed that my proposal to hang one in my living room didn't make the final cut though

West Coast
I wish they would have more fairly displaced them about the country. One in each corner of the nation would have been more reasonable.
Smithsonian, FLA, LAX and SEA !!!
Oh well we will take the trainer I guess.... Who knows maybe California will not be able to come up with the 29 Million and we will get it...
