Competition air rifle
Hey it's worth a shot...the interests on this forum are wide.
My son is a 10th grader on his high school rifle team. I'm new to the whole thing, and would love to ask some questions to one of you that has some experience. I've tried some shooting forums to no avail - those mostly deal with hunting...this is competition target shooting from 10 meters.
I have a bid out on a Walther .177 air rifle thru gunbroker.com. The range of pricing is staggering...anywhere from a couple hundred to several thousand.
Thanks for any help!

I'll take a "shot" at it! Ive had several air rifles and have disappointed with most of them. I'm a rifle and pistol shooter and reloader so accuracy is something I always strive for. I expected the same type accuracy from air rifles as well, but found it hard to accomplish.
After several air rifles, starting with cheap models, I finally sprung for a RWS and bought I nice scope to go with it. It still doesn't have the accuracy of a real rifle, but it does shoot a tighter group than any before. Now I have a little better pay back for the birds that insist on crapping on my plane!
All in, if your son is on a shooting team and you want to get him competitive equipment I would think your looking at 7-800 dollars. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Thanks -
That price range jives with the bid I have on the Walther. I really liked the looks of a Feinwerkbau, but I can't drop $1500 on an air rifle.
This is a long way from my Daisy Red Rider...nice sights, compressed air charged, 750FPS, no-kidding serious shooting.
But he's got all this year, and two more to go, so going cheap is a waste.
Thanks again - would love to hear some more info.

Figure out exactly what you want, check the ISSF rulebook and what locals are shooting, then see if you can find a used example on gunbroker or one of the suppliers.
