Quote: How about pay attention to flying? If you want to play games all day look into working at a ARFF factility.
I gaurantee you this guy uses "Im an airline pilot, yea Im an FO on a 66 seat jet" to pick up girls and wonders why they walk away.

Im guessing you scan the cockpit instruments on a 2 hr flight and doesnt dare to look away.

Or somewhere in between -- its not either play games climbing out of 10k to descending out of 10k vs. OMG I HAVE TO WATCH THE INSTRUMENTS ALL THE TIME IN COMPLETE SILENCE!!!! No need for hyperbole

IMHO, it doesnt hurt to find some way to keep your mind occupied in the flight deck, but you might want to think before you post. Seriously, as several ppl have already said, how difficult is it to just say playing games "on deadheads" or "between flights" rather than "while I'm flying". Think before you speak, just like you do before you make a PA (most of the time)

On a side note, some ppl on this thread need to get past the whole High School popularity contest thing. I mean seriously if you're hating on people on this forum who have a problem with using PED's in the flight deck...oh well, that's the job you signed up for. Just do your job, man up, and quit whining about being bored. Playing games in the flight deck is not a right or entitlement, even a privilege...in fact it's illegal. If you do it, be glad for every day you don't get caught. FWIW, I don't play video games in flight, if the guy on the other side of the thrust levers does, I don't care as long as it doesn't become a distraction or is done below FL180

Take it from a guy who got a warning letter from the FAA for using a camera in flight, and now has to explain that at an interview for a major Pretty embarrassing

What were you shooting with the camera and why would you mention that at an interview? You can get some pretty cool shots around the new york area. Statue of lib, central park, all that stuff whilst averaging twelve bucks an hour. Pretty cool.

This thread is deplorable. I have taken the liberty of contacting my local news station and referred them to this thread. They are investigating this nonsense. I have also recorded each of your names and what you wrote. If able, I will forward to your airlines so the proper disciplinary action will be taken.

My million dollar questions to the people who are nay saying all this games in the cockpit.

1) Have you ever read a Book/Newspaper/Magazine in the cockpit during flight?

2) Is it ok to read these same items on an iPad?

3) Is it ok for you and your co-pilot to pull out a deck of cards and play Poker/Blackjack/War in flight?

4) Is it ok for you to play the same games against each other on a Ipad?

I'm somewhat interested to know what's OK and not.

Look at it this way - ask a reporter for 60 minutes which of those is OK. You really think you don't know what the answer is?

You owe me a beer. Most of mine was expelled through my nose!

Quote: I don't think the flying public pays to to take them to Disney on any airplane that has a G1000....I'll do lots of things as a private pilot that might kill only 4 people or get me violated vs my role as an airline pilot. You need to learn that responsibility grows with the number of ratings you have.
Ok chief, the principal or the matter is that if it were truly a distraction to do SOME of the things mentioned here then why would a reputable avionics manufacturer make it an option. I'm talking about the act of operating an aircraft, not the type of flying or size of the equipment. Get it? Got it? Good.
Take.....the stick......OUT.
