I flew on a certain regional yesterday morning and I sat in a seat near the front of the aircraft. As we were sitting at the gate just after boarding and I was perusing a magazine I looked up and noticed that the cockpit door was open and the FA was standing near the door. I could see both pilots and while the CA was holding a checklist and reading things off, the F/O was scrolling through his iphone.
Is it just me or is that unprofessional? I mean I'm sure the dude is a fine pilot and all but I felt as though the CA should have been like, "Buddy don't text with the door open."
I mean I could care less if he texts or whatever but it just looks bad when you're preflighting and everyone can see that you're on your phone. Maybe I'm just whining at nothing....
I'm not trying to create a pointless thread but I wanted to hear some feedback from you guys out there that are flying every day. Are you ok with it? Because if you are then I am. Just a thought.

Well, if you fly on one of our Saabs pretty soon you will see the captain typing away on a smart phone just prior to departure: we will be using them for our W&B and other stuff.
That said, your point is well taken. We all need to realize eyes are always on us.

Much ado about nothing in my opinion. I don't turn my phone off until just before push back, but that said I would never have it out if a checklist was being actively run, unless we were using it to get information pertinent to the flight.

Easy there Grumble....I never said I knew everything about the situation, I just stated an observation. In my original post I even said I really had no problem with it if the door was closed. It just didn't seem wise with the door open. And for his sake I hope it wasn't a family emergency. That's a crummy way to start a day.
