Nice. Amazing the stresses those ships have to put up with. Anybody old enough to remember this? From those from the area it was legend.

I didn't listen to much else of the album, but I probably wore that part of the LP out

I saw a show about rogue waves on Discovery. These ships can take a lot. Unfortunately, waves can get as high as the control room and the waves break out the windows, flood the control room, shorten out the electronics. Once the ship is dead in the water, it can't be steered into the waves, and as such, it rolls over and breaks apart.

I grew up in a town right on one of the Great Lakes...a few sailors on the Fitz that night were from my town or literally the town just over. I also know some of their relatives. It seems time has not really faded their story or memory, but maybe added to their memory, if on an aviation forum a posting of a salty going through some weather immediately conjures up the Fitz.
I found it interesting who the owner of the Fitz was. And I also find it interesting the fate of her sister ship, the Arthur B. Homer.
