Australian Airports are more conservative when it comes to safety. You must wear Ear Defenders, which are ear muffs to prevent damage to the ears due to high decibels. I have no issues with the enforcement for the purposes of enhancement of safety. Some foreign carriers issued us Hi Viz Vests as part of our uniform allotments. Some carriers maintained Hi Viz Vests in the cockpit. Simple fix wsa to ACARS the company to have a spare brought out the aircraft if one has gone missing or unusable. No dramas nor drama queens to complain about how much of a fashion disaster to the uniform the vest looks. |

If it's required for your job maybe your company should pay for it

If one does not want to pull a de-feathered quarter from their pocket, as an alternative, if one is strapped for the $5.00, is to list themselves with GO FUND ME. |
Spirit doesn't want to pay the fines so all of the NK aircraft have a reflective vest onboard and company policy is to wear them during all walkarounds no matter where or when. Nobody I ever talked to minds wearing them, it's considered part of the job no big deal. If NK can afford to put them on all aircraft and train their employees to wear them, I'm pretty sure any other airline can figure it out too.
They do require that pilots procure and carry their own flashlights, but that's because people are far more likely to steal a nice flashlight than a reflective vest. |
I wonder what the Venn diagram looks like between the anti vest crowd, and those that pop their shoulder harness during rotation.

I have no clue why this is an issue.
If the plane doesn’t have a safety vest and it’s required for destination, fill out an ASAP or safety report. A few of those and there will be safety vests popping up in planes (assuming the safety department/committee is good and the FAA rep who oversees ASAPs isn’t asleep) If it isn’t required, either don’t wear one or bring your own for added safety. Really that simple. |
