My cousin recently returned from the US after a vacation with a great war story. In the spirit of honesty she is blessed with the antagonism gene and is a raging hippy, probably has allot to do with it.. But it shouldn't, right?

Anyhoo, she got stopped, had her luggage thoroughly searched and was threatened with a cavity search [she swears its the truth] leaving LAX on a domestic flight. She had come direct from Australia.

The problem? Her use of a cable tie to 'seal' her luggage. Apparently its suspicious and the 'type of thing a drug smuggler might do' They were also concerned by her DIY flight itinery: One flight to the US West coast and another separate flight to Florida, as opposed to a travel agent / airline organised transfer She was grilled over this also.

Had my bags searched in ANC at 3am in uniform by CBP, because...wait for it... they couldn't believe I had been out of the country for 21 days and didn't buy anything for my family.
Let them have their power trip.

I have been through ANC hundreds of times and been out the country longer than that when passing through ANC.
Either you had a new guy or some of your coworkers having been pulling some shenanigans for that to happen.
