The Griffon is basically a Merlin, just 36% bigger. (36.7 Liter vs 27) I looked up the Griffon powered Spits....other than a few test aircraft, they did not have the contra-rotating props of the Shackleton. The Spitfires with the Griffon had four and five-blade props...they won't sound much different than a Merlin.

Even in cosmoline and shipping crates, these aircraft are likely to have suffered corrosion damage after 60 years underground in a tropical environment.

But if even a tenth of them can be restored to flying status, it would double the world-wide flying population.

It would be the equivalent of finding 1000 P-51s underground in a cave. This is incredible.
