Default Tricare Reserve Select

The insurance costs at my company have gone up to the point that I'm considering Tricare in lieu of company offered benefits. Our insurance is good but very expensive. I'm single with no kids, and was wondering if anybody else has dropped company insurance for Tricare Reserve Select. I am currently drilling ARNG.

What is the comparison to civilian insurance? I have no pre-existing conditions and I don't get sick often, just need something in case of the worst.

Thank you for your replies.

I use TRS for the family. I like it, long story short. I am no insurance expert. Any questions, you can PM me, too.

Been using trs for the last yr. Airline gives me $200/mo to opt out of company plan so trs is essentially free to me. Family of 4 w no health issues at all. Had to change 3 doctors (wife, kids, family practice) but other than that, no probs at all. Can't stomach the premium for company plan on second yr pay so going to keep trs for now.

TRS can be a great option especially if you are far away from military bases and will likely be using your existing provider. Best kept secret in the benefits world. If you are a reservist you should really look in to TRS even if you have insurance through an employer.

Insurance where I work went from $180/mo to $550/mo..

Looking at doing the same jump to TRS.. Company is TX based, I live in WY, and nobody up here takes "united healthcare" so we end up paying everything out of pocket and waiting months for reimbursement.

Good luck. The best docs don't take tricare where I am.

No docs take United Healthcare where I am (Casper, WY).

It's pay all out of pocket and wait months for reimbursement.
