There was an grumpy RIC ground controller who was a bit of a yeller, especially for a small airport. It was out of the blue, you'd just get yelled at.

Evidently a lot of people had problems with the guy and supposedly someone used the ole "am I here because you're there or are you there because I am here?" call. The guy was awful. Captain Happy vs him would've been warranted.

Just treat everyone one person at a time and life will go smoother.

Fort Eglin?

One of those ASA PAs? :)

Guess it could be called a Fort as they're all there (Special Forces) & even the Navy (Demolition School). Big base, as I'm sure you know. ;):D

It was me. :D

I stopped myself mid sentence. The airport has too many names so I just combined them.

It is the one place you can now truthfully say "highest threat is bears..." Captain was on takeoff on the east/west runway and a bear was trying to cross the runway.

How does a bear survive there with that fur coat??

Buzz, was quite a guy. All the pilots loved him. However, I had an ATL ATC guy jumpseating back in the day. He said that you guys love him, but sit next to him for a shift and hearing have a great day gentlemen, five hundred times a day, one would want to go postal.

Whatever happened to "grumpy" in ATL? All the controllers said he was nothing like he sounded on the radio.

Oh, you're one of those "callsign" first Delta guys, aren't you.

He too retired if you're referring to "Smily'. If you ever noticed he was usually the arrival controller when the weather was down. Years ago if you went to the FAA web site for ATL FSDO they had a link for celebrity controllers. Click that and Buzz & Smily's pictures appeared!

When I was in indoc in '89 we visited ATL Tower & ATL Center. One of our guys asked the supervisor if 'Smily' was working. The supervisor leans back towards the controllers working the scopes and says, "hey a--hole, some pilots want to meet you".
