Default The Soviet executioner of Luftwaffe

I share with you a collection of photos of the most produced Soviet fighter of all time, including some rare photos of the plane with Allied markings. We're talking about Yakovlev Yak-9, the first Soviet aircraft to shoot down a Me-262. To see the photos, visit the link below:

Best Regards.

What's the story? I forget, did it shoot the ME 262 down when it was landing, or was it in air combat?

I thought the majority of 262's that were shot down, were shot down during take off or landing. No?

The majority, yes.

It's high wing loading made it a horrible turning airplane until the pilots learned to manage the thrust a little better and try to keep the speed up to avoid getting caught in a turning fight.

Some of the books written about the German pilots that flew the are interesting. Especially Galland's "The First and the Last".

And IIRC, the Russian that shot down that 262 was shot down/killed by another 262 shortly after.

Yep, " The First and the Last" is a great read, and I can't say for sure, but I believe this was the book that I got this information from. It may have been in "The Right Stuff" tho
