Default Boeing to offer updated 767 as Air Force tanker

If Boeing gets the contract, it will only add to the good news coming out of UPS on the 767.

Ummm why is it possible for the US to use an aircraft built in another country? Shouldn't it just be a lockheed vs. boeing bit? Not a Scarebus!

First, it is a US company that will offer the airplanes (Northrop Grumman). Behind Lockheed and Boeing, Northrop is the 3rd largest defense contractor, so yes, it is a US company offering the competing tanker.
Second, it is good for the United States military if they have more than one bid for the contract. Increased competition means 1. better product, and 2. cheaper cost. It makes no sense for Northrop to build their own brand new widebody tanker, so they will use an existing design (The A330 which can tanker more fuel over a longer range).

I would like to see Boeing win this contract, but it is a good think to have competition.

Didnt Boeing already get in trouble with the Air Force for proposing a lease deal on some 767's as tankers?
