Default Engineering forum request

I love the site. As a commercial pilot and CFI I always find lots of useful information in the forums. I'm an aeronautical engineer with the Boeing company and would love to see an engineering forum! The technical forum is great however it's usually cluttered full of of operational info. A forum that can be made available to discuses aeronautical engineering topics would be a great benefit for us who are also engineers.

Welcome to APC, PHX. I do not think is enough interest in engineering to warrant a separate forum. Some of the professional pilots have engineering degrees, and a precious few are former engineers, but even those are rarely interested in deep discussion of engineering topics. Maybe try Eng-Tips Forums. They get some pretty good debates going over there, I started a few myself and you get some smart input.

Another thing I have found about engineering through online forums is, it is a huge PITA trying to display diagrams and formulas. Scratch drawings and hand calcs become VERY very difficult to display online. If you make a napkin drawing you need to scan it. No chalk boards, no dry erase and so on. Even the hottest engineering debates tend to die down quickly because of the difficulty in digitizing everything.

But I am with you, I love engineering too and am currently employed as a test writer for a bizjet manufacturer. A separate forum can be created if and when the pace of engineering at APC picks up. You never know.

I'm a former engineer (mechanical) turned pro pilot, and I would also welcome a new engineering sub-forum!

No! It's absolutely imperative that we do not let out any engineering secrets!
