Default Home based pilots~

Are you home based? Take a minute, help those of us learning more about these operations. I've done the searches, didn't come up with much. Your help is appreciated!

Are you home based?
Part 91/135/121?
Domestic/Intl?
What do you like most about it?
What do you like least about it?
What was the biggest surprise, once you were on line (compared to what you thought it was going to be like)?

Thank you!

PS... wasn't sure which board to put this on, since the answers could relate to 135/121/91, etc. My apologies if the placement is improper.

Been home based twice. Both 121, once domestic, once International.

There is virtually NO downside. Besides accruing airline miles and status, you NEVER have to worry about commuting. Your only issue is making it to the airport to catch your company ticketed flight on time.

I loved my home based experiences especially after 24 years of commuting.

It's awesome. Only have to worry about getting to my home airport on time. All other logistics of any sort are on the company. Even get a room at my base when the plane is there. I'm at a 135. Done the same at a 91K.

Kalitta Air. Practical to live overseas, but I don't think they have Home Basing overseas, exactly.
ATI
NetJets has Gateway Basing I think..pretty close.
Atlas AIr has Gateway Travel...not as good as Home Basing, but they buy you a ticket to/from work, and it's practical to live overseas.
Travel Mgmt (TMC) has home basing, but I wouldn't recommend them.

I was home based at World. The biggest upside was not burning days off when you commuted. The biggest downside was that there was a strong financial incentive to keep you out your full stretch of available days. There was no 4 on, 3 off there.

I was home based flying 135.
Two weeks on and two weeks off...well kinda.
24 hr per diem once you left your home.
Fun while it lasted.

Home based 121/sup..... I really don't see a downside. No pressure going to work ever... works for me.

Thanks to all, for your insight! Home basing really seems to have a lot going for it.

It's been 6 years, and I talk about the place like I left it yesterday. Today, I was talking with the old DOM from BA. We work together, here in ND.

Thanks for the chuckle! He's doing way better than I imagined, if he remembers me!

What are you doing these days, EG? Still pushing Casa's around?
