Hey, just got an interview at Commut on feb 22. Can't wait but, how would commuting from PHX be? How many days off do you get per month? Any words of wisdom for the interview? Thanks for the info!
I did that commute for almost a year... I hope you dont have kids. There were a couple of times where I didnt get back to PHX to see my wife for 6 weeks because of the schedule, but this was back in the old days of the 1900. I dont recall having any issues with the commute itself, pretty easy on CAL. |

If you are a junior lineholder and have a lot of standups, you can take a huge hit on QOL. Standups, although physically 2 calendar days of work, count as one day of work here because it is one duty period, so there's a 'fake' day off. When you see your schedule, you'll see the start day of the standup as your work day and the next day off, even though you will be flying a flight that morning. Some bids with a lot of standups really only yield 5-7 physical calendar days off where you do no work, taking into account the 'fake' day off. That's something we're trying to change with the CBA, but right now, it is what it is. Once you get over the standup bump in seniority, it's not bad at all.... normal airline schedule basically from there. There are some west coast commuters here, I would think it would be really tiring, but they seem to make it work. |

Thanks again guys for all the great replies. Are they still using the Burlington ILS 15 in the interview? Also, should I know all the 121 regs, or is it cool to just brush up on the 91 stuff that I've been flying? I'm so excited for the interview I'm probably just going to walk in hyperventilate, puke, and pass out in front of the HR lady and the Chief pilot. It's all about first impressions. Haha

the people at Commutair are really really nice .I am sure you will be at ease after settling in . Be yourself and study hard. my impression is that commutair is one of the best kept secrets in 121. Good luck on your interview !!

|
Very cool. I was hoping eagle would call so I had a choice too. Are you west coast or east?

Great lakes supplies approach plates to captains only ....you share the apprioach plate with the captain believe it or not . My friend is there .When doing approaches you copy data onto your TOLD card and can "borrow "the plate if needed .

He told me that there is limited space in the 1900 so thats why they dont both carry approach plates . Jepps are expensive buggers though

I graduated college last May of 2010, and over the last few summers while in College got my licenses from a part 61 guy at my local airport. Cost me about 42k from start to finish, which I got from my Grandpas trust fund. I got a few flying gigs from people my instructor knew starting mid May of this year, I had about 300 hours, I now have 910 TTL, and about 130 ME. I have interviews coming up with AWAC, Eagle, ASA, Commutair, and Great Lakes. I am 22, any advice?

Tim Martins brother perhaps? I knew AE won't work since 1200 hrs is pretty much cast in stone.

Yes. That is unreal. What are your interview dates? I think I would go with commutair either way... All about the upgrade time man.

currently hiring into a 3/14 class. i think there's 12 in the one that started monday. my guess is that there is probably going to be another one around april 11th... and maybe one after that... and then another one... oh boy!
|
Has pretty much everyone who has gotten a call been multi current?
|
<-----nope
|
Ok.....check ride failures?
|
Probably partially depends on what checkride it was.. Typically 1-2 is fine, but 3+ usually doesn't look so hot... also consider those in combo with speeding tickets, etc.
Despite whatever you have, make sure to hide nothing, otherwise when they find out, and they will, you're toast. As long as you can describe what happened and what you learned from it, you should be fine (within reason of course...). |
2 orals, one my fault and the other bogus which doesn't really make a difference I suppose. The only ticket in the last 5 years is a seat belt violation. Its just very frustrating that I can't even get a call with my times. Maybe its time to look into a hot new career in the custodial arts.

Any news on the Q300s?

First one delivered and parked in front of the CommutAir hanger. Arrived Sunday. |
Anyone else getting class dates on here?
|
C5
You would make way more at a job in custodial arts than you would at C5. Also have a way better schedule.
|
Nothing on this forum recently but just wondering if anyone is getting called for class dates? I'm waiting in the pool. Heard there is an 8/29 class, but I don't think that will include me.

please delete this thanks

Interviewed 6/16 and got the email for the 8/29 class early last week. Sooner than they told me to expect at the interview, which is fine by me.
|
Glad to hear they will be running another class. We had heard September but I'll take late August as well.
Last couple classes have been all EWR as the Q300s are mostly headed there. But a few guys from the March class got to CLE. So if attrition holds steady you could probably hold CLE within two-three months. If you have any questions drop me a PM. |
I'm kind of hoping for EWR only because I have friend with a cheap room to rent in BOS and I'm hoping BOS-EWR wont be the worst commute ever... although, lets face it, there's no such thing as a good commute.
|
For commuting EWR seems the easier of the two so far. CLE just has too many RJs on long routes. The worst trouble I've had in EWR is when CO for whatever reasons plays the plane swapping game and trades a 767 for a 757, 737-900 for an -800, etc.
That being said, the commute in is usually pretty easy. It's just getting out that sucks. |

I kind of disagree, as I don't see myself settling. I'm from Cleveland and would love the opportunity to come back home and be based in CLE. I guess I could try for ExpressJet interview, but that's not happening right now. I have an Eagle interview but I'm afraid of the whole divesting thing. I know a few guys at CommutAir, and they all say its not really as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
When FO top out pay exceeds a 9yr Captain grade at another airline you should really think about your options. On another note.... C5 has a great pilot group from what I can tell by JS'ing. ALL of them want to get the heck away from C5 ASAP. The crew I JS with yesterday, the FO just got hired with Skywest and he'd been with C5 3yrs. |
apply everywhere, go where you get hired. get PIC go somewhere better.
