How Much Real Hiring In The Regionals?
Hello All. My question for all the 121 guys is how much hiring is REALLY going on at the regionals. I read these boards every day and I have read on here and other boards about how this regional or that regional needs pilots and I see now they have started dropping minimums so...
My situation is I have about 2800 total and 200+ multi (which I know is still low time) and I can't even get an interview! I have NO violations, no criminal record, no tickets, passed all my Part 135.293/7/9 rides with no problems and I even passed a SIC type ride at Flightsafety for my last job. I am current instrument and night but not multi now. (I simply can't afford to buy any multi unless I know I have an interview.) I flew the Shorts for a while and I have some other time in a few other turbine multi's including about 5 hours of PIC. I also have 600+hours of turbine PIC. I even had an American mainline check captain who walked my resume in to Eagle, and a long list of former students (some who are already regional captains ) who have done the same. I am currently chief pilot of a flight school that only has singles unfortunately and I know the lack of multi has been a sticking point. Other than that....? My friends and students keep telling me there is hiring so what's your perspectives on hiring? Sorry for the long post but I am getting a little frustrated.

I applied to Colgan/Mesaba multiple times over the last year with an internal rec up to last week. I also applied with Eagle,Pinnacle,ASA,Cape Air,Piedmont,Pinnacle,Skywest, and TSA through airlineapps. Any one of those that also has an application on their website I also filled that out. I applied at Air Wisconsin and Commutair and I tried Republic even though I don't meet their multi times. Those are the ones I recall. All of these were updated in the last 2 to 3 months.

There's something there that they universally don't like. You're going to have to dig a bit deeper into exactly what is on your apps?
Any of the obvious? Criminal, Drugs, Reckless Driving, Aircraft Accident/Incident, etc?
Do you have a degree?
What's your age?

Yeah I know there HAS to be something that is turning them off. I wish I could figure out what it is.
In answer to your question; I'm 37, I have a 4 year degree (3.3 GPA), no criminal record, no drugs or alcohol, no reckless driving ever, no tickets at all in over 10 years (only had 1 ever), and no accidents/incidents. I easily passed my ATP written last July and I have my radio license.
The only negative I am aware of is I failed my CFI add on oral twice. (That was 2400 hours ago though and I have flown the line and passed Part 135 PIC and SIC checks and even a type rating course since then.) I "incompleted" some Private level stage checks at my 141 school but that doesn't show up in PRIA or on my FAA record and anyone who asks I would tell anyway. I passed all commercial level flight checks on my first attempt.
The thing is with most of the application process online a resume doesn't even get seen until the interview much of the time. So something in there must be an issue. I know that computers sort the resumes before a HR person probably even looks at them so maybe there is something there. I have talked to several pilots and even had people in and out of aviation look at my resume to see if I was missing something. IDK. I guess I need to just keep trying.
I just don't want to miss this wave of hiring. I think I might just go to the job fairs so I can put a face on my application. I did get 2 interviews for Part 135 but one company passed and I have a possible pending opportunity with the other, and I have been offered other instructional positions. So it's not that I can't get an aviation interview, just not the airlines. I would prefer the 121 world even though the pay is a little lower initially. Thanks for the input!

Keep updating your apps two times a week. That show them that you're interested.
Also keep reviewing all your app, there might be something wrong that no let them see your app.
I used to review my app every time I change my flight time. There's always an error somewhere.

Okay, I have no clue but keep trying, perseverance is a must in this career field.
Good luck-
