PM me if you have any questions about this job. I am a student at SIU right now. We've had multiple instructors leave for the airlines over the summer. Good that the pipeline is opening up again, but bad since we are short of instructors.

How much is the "excellent salary" (their words) they are offering? How much do the health benefits cost?

I don't know about Salary, but I work at University of Illinois and the health benefits are usually the same offered to all state education employees. Coverage is some of the best out there and is not that expensive (I pay $50/month). There are quite a few different insurance packages they offer though and the paperwork can be daunting.

I must say, working at a University flight school (not an academy or FBO) is probably the best way to CFI. Great kids, great environment, great benefits, tuition waivers, etc. I will be sad when I leave my current CFI gig.

Out of curiosity to any Salukis out there... Just like at U of I, we only hire out to the general public when things get REALLY bad. Has the recent hiring by the regionals already short staffed you guys that much? We've had quite a few guys leave in the past year too, especially people who have waited through the 08/09 drought.

The instructors that have been held up here for a few years since the drought are finally moving on. We had about 5 instructors leave in the past few months to the regional and other jobs, and even more have interviews lined up. Even some of our higher time part time instructors are getting jobs.

We also have much higher enrollment this year as well. so yes, it's that bad. You should apply! we would love to have some U of I guys down in Carbondale...
