This requirement eliminates a lot of folks:
"As a selective factor, applicants must have 90 days of on the line wildland firefighting experience gained through containment, control, suppression or use of wildland fire."

I'm curious about the, "...or use of wildland fire." bit - does that mean I need 90 days of experience setting forest fires? 90 days of experience using fire in the wild to clear areas out? 90 days roasting marshmallows in the woods?
Or...how does one get 90 days of "on the line" wildland fire fighting experience?

I'd say if it interests you, throw your name in the hat. I imagine having C130 experience would be highly desirable to the forest service. Let them be the one to tell you no. Who knows, maybe nobody has that "90 days experience" and your resume ends up being the best one in the batch.
