United Airlines

Dear xxxxx xxxxxxxx,

Thank you for your interest in United Airlines. We plan to be hiring pilots in the fourth quarter of 2012 and in to 2013. In preparation for this hiring, we are updating our application and addendum to better reflect post merger requirements. These changes are nearly complete and we expect to start reviewing applications in the coming week.

Please make sure your United (previously Continental) application in Airline Apps is up to date and check back regularly for any announcements regarding application changes.

Thank you,
United Airlines Pilot Development

Can anyone provide any insight into reserve call out? Is there long call vs. short call? How long do you have from call to report?

Are new hires designated CA or UA, or have the two lists merged already? What bases/equip will new hires most likely get? Thanks.

CAL 737 in EWR or IAH is most likely.

Are you base locked in anyway? Say you got hired in whatever base and put in a transfer, how do those work at C-UAL?

No. You can bid any base at any time, but won't get it unless there is a vacancy and your seniority can hold it. Guam could be the exception. If you take the paid move, then you committ to two years, I think.

I bid IAH (because it was a shorter drive from CA), but didn't get it. A little after I finished training and moved, a new bid was out and I got it. I had already moved, so they let me stay in EWR.

You can also bid up in aircraft. If you are hired in the 737, you can bid a higher paying aircraft anytime. If you want to move down in pay, you have to wait 2 years. I did three type ratings my first year (737/757/767). Got my fourth rating around my 5th year (777). I wasn't chasing ratings, it just worked out that way.

Thanks for info. Is LAX very senior on the 737?

That depends on your definition of senior. The junior LAX FO was hired on 04/17/2012. I would say no, it's not senior. I don't know if it will expand or stay the same in the future.
